Civil War was a massively popular, inordinately huge, and wildly profitable mega-crossover published by Marvel from summer 2006 through early 2007. It involved virtually the whole entire Marvel Universe in one way or another, and was the culmination of events which had begun as far back as Avengers Disassembled, when the team of Earth's Mightiest Heroes was utterly destroyed from within.

CORE READING EXPERIENCE: This selection of books is for people who want to get the forefront of what Civil War was all about. It numbers four books, including the main Civil War title, in which most of the main plot points occured and which all other books took their cue from, the Civil War: Front Line books, which offer a look behind the scenes on the action in Civil War, and Road to Civil War, a "prelude" book that is actually quite good at getting you up to speed with the major players of the Civil War and the world they're about to inhabit.

PRIME TIME PLAYERS: The Civil War event featured virtually everyone in the MU, but there were some who were at the center of the action and making things happen. While not essential reading to understand the major themes of CW, these books include stories which tread very closely to the action of CW and can help you get to know those characters and their motives better.

THE FULL COURSE: For those that want it all! This long list of titles rounds out the story content of the CW crossover spectactular! As you can see, there's lots there to choose from!

RESOURCE MATERIAL: The CW Companion includes material such as interviews with CW creators and handbook pages featuring the CW players.

OTHER CROSSOVERS: There were a small handful of Civil War crossovers that took place without the CW brand, but were nonetheless related to the main CW event. This included "Casualties of War", which ran through Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Blade; "Unmasked", which followed the life of Spider-Man after he revealed his secret identity; and the wedding of Storm and Black Panther, which was given the brand of "Civil War Ceasefire".

CW CROSSOVERS IN REGULAR TPBS: Some of the Civil War crossovers have been duplicated in that title's regular line of trades, and this is an option for collecting those issues rather than getting the CW trade.
