WOLVERINE #42: "Vendetta" Wolverine crash lands a plane full of Crusaders in a corn field, while resting up at a local bar, hears the news of Stamford - he is summarily called into action by both the X-Men and the Avengers. Logan heads to Stamford to help with cleanup efforts, and responds to what he considers intransigence from others and decides to seek out the man responsible for this destruction - Nitro.
WOLVERINE #43: "Revenge" Wolverine tracks down the truck that carried Nitro from Stamford to California. Iron Man meets him in California where they both debate the merits of killing Nitro. Wolverine joins Stark's Super-Human Restraint Unit, deployed to take down Nitro. On their sortie to apprehend the villain, Nitro destroys the Restraint Unit and burns Wolverine to total disintegration. Janus is gathered by two secret agents who are tracking down both Wolverine and Nitro. Wolverine recovers from being burned to a crisp and confronts Nitro.
WOLVERINE #44: "Justice" Wolverine is about to take out Nitro once and for all, but the bad guy bargains for his life with information about a conspiracy behind the whole affair, also involving Mutant Growth Hormone. Suddenly, Wolverine is attacked by Janus, who is joined by his two agents to take down Nitro. The agents are revealed to be Namor's Atlantean bounty hunters.
WOLVERINE #45: "Justice" Namor and his posse make away with Nitro. Iron Man loans Wolverine a suit of underwater armor and he descends to Atlantis to discuss matters with Namor. Nitro manages to overcome his Atlantean captor and kill the one who had been torturing him, Politus, but through the torture, he revealed that Walter Declun, CEO of Damage Control, were his benefactors. Wolverine receives this information, but Namor keeps Nitro as his prisoner in Atlantis.
WOLVERINE #46: "Payback Part 1" Wolverine visits Damage Control corporate headquarters to see Declun. He tells DC's Ann-Marie Hoag about the MGH that has been traced from Nitro to her company. Declun kicks Wolverine out of the building, but not before he is able to plant a data miner. Through this the information retrieved by his spy device, he finds out that Damage Control is out to generate business for themselves by instigating conflicts around the world. Wolverine sets out to destroy Damage Control's financial holdings, which leads him to DC's Long Island headquarters where he faces down a set of thugs wearing salvaged Mandroid armor.
WOLVERINE #47: "Payback Part 2" The Mandroids get beaten back by Janus, who arrives to assist Wolverine. The Sentry takes out Wolverine, who is taken directly to see Maria Hill, Director of SHIELD, but he summarily escapes, leaping off the Heli-Carrier. Hoag threatens to remove Walter Declun from his position as CEO of Damage Control. Wolverine shows up during the board meeting, and Declun takes a heavy dose of MGH in order to battle him, but Wolverine ruthlessly kills him.
