On Sale: MARVEL TRADES LIST IRON MAN #13-14
Writer: Daniel and Charlie Knauf
IRON MAN #13 After filming a pro-registration PSA (public service announcement), Tony is met by the Secretary of Defense and is offered command of SHIELD. Tony delivers a definitive "no" as his answer. Meanwhile, Najeeb consults with his agent in Bangkok, who has just killed the "second of ten"; Najeeb orders him to locate the Spymaster for his next job. Later, Tony meets with Sal and Maya, discusses recent events and descends into an emotional funk over his personal commitments to the Registration Act and all it has entailed. Happy reminds him of his values he brings to the table: he's one of the only people that can be objective about the issue of hero registration, since, though he is a super-hero, he is essentially a non-powered human; thus, he can understand the vulnerability that the common man feels when living in a world of super-heroes. Tony finds this input from his friend very redemptive. Sometime later, Happy is ambushed by the Spymaster, the villain leaving Tony's best friend mortally wounded.
IRON MAN #14 Iron Man and his team of heroes plan their next move against Cap and his band of underground resistance fighters. Pepper meets with Tony as Happy lies in a vegetative state in the hospital. She insinuates that Tony could use his Extremis abilities to end Happy's suffering, and relates to him a story that reveals that Happy would have wanted it that way. Tony rejects her request. Iron Man meets Cap at an empty Yankee Stadium in the middle of the night, for the express purpose of a military parley: Tony wants to ask Cap if he had anything to do with Happy's beating. Cap says he had nothing to do with it. Suddenly, some over eager "Secret Avengers" arrive to defend him from Iron Man. A hubbub arises and the heroes take on Iron Man, with Cap being evacuated from the stadium by cloak. Iron Man stops the heroes, including Spider-Man, telling them it was just a parley and that he will always be a man of his word. Later, in the privacy of his penthouse, Tony stands in front of a bottle of whiskey, then pours himself a glass. Rescuing him from surrendering to his addiction, the Invisible Woman, who has been tracking him all day, slaps the glass out of his hand. The pair discuss their motives for where they stand, with Sue telling him to snap out of his current position and let Reed go from his manipulative grasp. After his confrontation with Sue, and reflecting over some of her words - which have cut to his core - he thinks about his friend Happy, and uses his Extremis abilities to stop the machines that are keeping him alive.
