CAPTAIN AMERICA #22: "The Drums of War Part 1" Sharon Carter sees a psychiatrist about dealing with Maria Hill, the SHIELD director who commands her to track down Captain America using her special relationship with him. Sharon sees Cap and tries to talk him into quitting his resistance to the Registration Act. She was supposed to lead a cadre of SHIELD agents to his location, but she goes against her orders. Sharon's psychiatrist goes to meet the Red Skull, revealing himself to be Dr. Faustus, who is influencing her love for Captain America.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #23: "The Drums of War Part 2" Bucky penetrates a hidden SHIELD complex with Nick Fury looking on as a hologram. He overtakes a LMD of Nick and implants a detection/monitor device at the complex for the real Nick Fury. He finds evidence in the SHIELD databanks that Lukin is meeting with Dr. Doom. Bucky has a fight with some cape killers, and afterwards gets some tech for Nick to later adapt. Meanwhile, the Skull and Doctor Doom agree to a trade.....
CAPTAIN AMERICA #24: "The Drums of War Part 3" Sharon is put on SHIELD detail to find Nick Fury, and later meets with her target. Meanwhile, Cap investigates a lead to the Red Skull given to him by Nick, and infiltrates a Hydra base. He's eventually found out and has to fight his way out of the base before he can ascertain what is going on there. He is descended upon by cape killers and Sharon helps him escape. The Red Skull sets up Arnim Zola in his own private lab where they discuss their plan to destroy Captain America. WINTER SOLDIER: WINTER KILLS
Writer: Ed Brubaker 38 pages + cover • February 2007 Nick Fury calls on Bucky to stop the Young Avengers from taking out a Hydra facility that he has had under his surveillance. His cover is blown by Hydra, so Bucky and the Young Avengers go into Plan B and raze the facility. Afterwards, Bucky heads to the cemetery to visit the grave of Jack Monroe and apologize for killing him. The Young Avengers follow him after figuring out who the man they stood with against Hydra really is, and they salute him for his courage and service alongside Cap. After they take their leave, Namor arrives and meets with Bucky for the first time since he resurfaced, and they talk about the fate of their old friend, Toro.
